Grant Overview
Kentucky's Path to Enhanced Data Sharing
In Kentucky, the disparity in effective support services for survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and child abuse is partly attributed to a lack of coordinated care across organizations. Reports indicate that in 2020, only 20% of domestic violence service providers in Kentucky were able to track referrals and outcomes effectively, primarily due to insufficient data-sharing practices. This deficiency hinders the response capabilities of organizations, making it essential to address systemic issues related to information flow and resource allocation.
The funding initiative is particularly pertinent for organizations in both urban areas like Louisville, with diverse demographics and outreach needs, and rural regions, where the population density presents unique challenges. Professionals within these organizations face barriers in communication that inhibit their ability to provide comprehensive care. Many report frustrations with duplicated efforts and inconsistent service delivery, resulting in fragmented care for individuals experiencing trauma.
To counter these issues, this Kentucky program establishes a framework for collaborative data-sharing among organizations that support survivors. By fostering an integrated system, professionals can access real-time data that will enable them to understand the complexities associated with vicarious trauma and refine their responses accordingly. As organizations utilize a shared data platform, they can identify trends, allocate resources more effectively, and respond to emergencies with greater agility.
This initiative is especially critical in Kentucky's unique context, where varying levels of technological access and data literacy exist between urban and rural organizations. By investing in the infrastructure necessary for data sharing, the program aims to level the playing field, ensuring all areasrich or underservedbenefit from coordinated efforts. As a result, organizations can better respond to survivors’ needs and create a more supportive network of services across the state.
In practice, this will mean that survivors experience a seamless continuum of care, irrespective of where they access services. As organizations share insights and track progress collectively, Kentucky’s domestic violence response network can adapt and evolve, improving not only individual outcomes but also the effectiveness of the entire system.
